“Dance with me.” Jesse said, holding his hand out towards her, standing on the balcony of the hotel room they were currently sharing. He had only been standing out there for only a few moments, but already, he was soaked through, his hair plastered to his face and his clothes clinging to his skin.
“Are you insane?!” Rachel exclaimed, her eyes widening as she stared at him incredulously. Her arms folded across her chest and she shook her head at him.
“Come on, just dance with me. It’ll be fun, I promise.” Jesse insisted, holding out his hand again, grinning widely.
“It’s raining.” Rachel pointed out, her eyebrows rising as she stared from the pouring rain to her drenched boyfriend.
“Even more reason to dance with me.” He replied, his grin growing.
“You have officially lost it. I’m dating a lunatic.” She said, throwing her hands up in defeat and staring up at the ceiling.
“Oh, come on. Just take my hand. Trust me.” Jesse said gently, taking a step towards her. Rachel looked down at him, twisting her lips as she weighed her options. Finally, she moved towards him, placing her hand in his.
“…fine.” She muttered, letting him pull her out onto the balcony with a triumphant laugh. He put his free hand on her waist, and she put hers on his shoulder, and they began spinning around, him leading her in a delicate waltz around the balcony.
“See? It’s not so bad.” He said, smiling impishly at her.
“Well, of course not. I can’t tell I’m wet anymore, because I am completely and thoroughly soaked. I can’t tell the difference.” Rachel said, rolling her eyes but smiling anyway.
“Always the drama queen.” He teased, kissing her forehead. She couldn’t help but laugh softly, bowing her head slightly. They danced in silence for a few moments, save for Jesse’s quiet humming.
“Jesse, why are you doing this?” She asked suddenly, looking up at him with curious eyes.
“I’ve always wanted to dance in the rain. I might as well do it now that I have the chance to dance in the rain with the girl I’m in love with.” He replied, smiling warmly at her.
“Not just the dancing. This entire trip.” Rachel amended.
“Can’t a guy just take his girlfriend on a nice trip to the place of her dreams without there being a reason?”
“There’s always a reason with you.”
“Alright, alright. You caught me.” Jesse slowly stopped dancing, bringing him and Rachel to a stop in front of the French doors that led into their hotel room. Rachel watched him with a confused expression until he sunk down onto one knee. She let out a quiet gasp, her eyes widening as he pulled out a small velvet box.
“Rachel Berry, I am completely and totally in love with you. I couldn’t imagine waking up in the morning next to anyone else, I couldn’t imagine saying goodnight last to anybody else, I couldn’t imagine my life with anyone else. I couldn’t imagine life without you, without your quirks, without the way you always wake me up in the morning and the way you hold me close at night, without the way you sing in the shower and in the grocery store and everywhere else imaginable, I couldn’t live without you. I want to be your husband, and I hope you will do me the greatest honor of becoming my wife.” Jesse said, opening the box to reveal a stunning diamond ring, simply placed in a band of gold.
“Jesse…” Rachel breathed, staring down at him and the ring with glistening eyes.
“Well, what do you say?” Jesse asked, looking up at her with a mixture of nerves and adoration.
“Yes.” She whispered, leaning down and wrapping her arms around his neck, burying her face in his shoulder. A smile grew across his lips and he stood up, twirling her around before putting her back down again, kissing her softly. He pulled away, slipping the ring onto her finger. She stared down at it, his favorite dazzling smile spread across her lips.
“I love you, Rachel Berry.” He murmured.
“I love you more, Jesse St. James.” She murmured back, leaning up to kiss him.
